Asus RT-N12 Router Overview

The Asus RT-N12 was designed for use in small homes, but is equally at home in a medium sized apartment. The two detachable antennas connect to inbuilt signal amplifiers to offer increased performance at longer ranges, so you don’t need to worry about losing your WiFi signal when you leave the room.

The RT-N12 operates on 2.4GHz and offers speeds of up to 300Mbps, so will surf and browse internet and online games with ease over the WifFi network and it also has 4 ethernet ports for very stable wired connections to for your stationary devices.

The small size of the RT-N12 means it can be placed out of the way, and is easy to move around with if you need to throw it into a bag for travelling. This particular router does not have a USB connection, so certain NAS setups won’t work, although a wireless or ethernet NAS will be just fine.

Asus RT-N12 VPN Router Setup

Getting started

To set up your Sabai OS powered Asus RT-N12 router:

1. Unplug your modem from the power supply

2. Connect your router to the modem via ethernet cable

3. Plug in your Asus RT-N12 router and modem to the power socket

4. Start up the modem and router

5. Open your web browser and type into the address bar: 192.168.199.1

6. Enter the password that came with your router

Gateways

Gateways are a feature exclusive to Sabai OS that allows you to connect different devices to either your VPN or home network, just by opening your Sabai OS dashboard, selecting the device, and choosing which connection it should use. It means you can be watching a Sports match in Europe whilst gaming on US servers.

This type of connection is possible on regular Tomato firmware, but you’d have to program it yourself, whereas it’s as easy as opening the dashboard and making your choice on a Sabai router.  It’s easy to switch between the networks from your Sabai OS dashboard, and the settings will save for next time you use that device.
