Home Server Setup

Step 1: Connect the Home Server

Plug the power supply into your new Sabai Home Server and connect it to your current router via ethernet cable.

Step 2: Access the main router.

Log into your current router by typing in the IP address of the router control panel. Sabai routers can be accessed at 192.168.199.1. The username and password are admin/sabaipass123. NonSabai routers are typically accessed through one of the following IP addresses: 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.

Step 3: Assign a static IP address to the Server.

Find the LAN Device List and add the Home Server to the static address list. The Home Server device name will be “homeserver”. The example below is from a stock Netgear Router.

Step 4: Set Up the Home Server

Open a new tab in your web browser. Enter the IP address you assigned to the Home Server into the address bar and hit enter.

The login is admin/sabaipass123.

Step 5: Configure OpenVPN

Click on OpenVPN. Click on Configuration. Click Regenerate Certs.

Wait for the page to reload and choose your preferred settings or use the defaults and click Save at the bottom.

Step 6: Start the OpenVPN Server

Click on Server and click Start.

Step 7: Create the OpenVPN client files

Click on Clients and enter the name of the first client file you wish to create.

Click Add Client.

Download your new client file for use in your OpenVPN client.

Note: Scrambled file only works in clients that support Scramble such as the Sabai OS router or VPN Accelerator. This file is useful in places where restrictions are placed on VPN use.

Repeat Step 7 for any additional clients you wish to add. You can create and connect as many as you want.

Step 8: Configure WireGuard

Click on WireGuard. Click on Configuration. Click Generate Server Key.

Step 9: Configure WireGuard port and DNS

Set the Port number or use the randomly generated default. Add a DNS address. Default is 9.9.9.10 but any DNS will be fine. Click Save.

Step 10: Start the WireGuard Server

Click Server. Click Start.

Step 11: Create the WireGuard client files

Click on Clients and enter the name of the first client file you wish to create.

Click Add Client.

Download your new client file for use in your WireGuard client.

For mobile devices, click QR Code and scan the code to import the file into the WireGuard mobile app.

Click Remove to revoke the file permissions.

Step 12: Port Forwarding

You will need to forward the ports you use in your server configuration in step 5 and step 9 as well as the Sabai remote management port. This procedure will vary depending on the router you are using but in general, forward these ports to the address you assigned to the Home Server in Step 3.

The default OpenVPN ports are udp/1194 and udp/443. The Sabai management port is tcp/31422. The WireGuard port is assigned as shown in step 9.
