The Netgear Nighthawk R7000 is a powerful dual-band wireless AC VPN router powered by Sabai OS. With simultaneous 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless, combined speeds up to 1900 Mbps, Gigabit Ethernet, a 1 GHz dual-core processor, and three external antennas, the R7000 is well suited for larger homes, multiple connected devices, streaming, gaming, and other network-intensive applications.
The R7000 features high-powered Wi-Fi amplifiers and external antennas designed to provide strong wireless coverage throughout larger and multi-level homes. Gigabit Ethernet ports provide fast, reliable wired connections for computers, game consoles, streaming devices, and other network equipment.
The Netgear Nighthawk R7000 arrives with Sabai OS installed and ready for setup. Our VPN-focused router firmware is designed to make network and VPN management accessible through an easy-to-use browser-based dashboard.
With a compatible VPN configured on the router, devices connected to the R7000 can use the VPN connection without requiring separate VPN software on each device. This is particularly useful for smart TVs, streaming devices, game consoles, and other devices that may not support VPN applications directly.
Sabai OS also includes our Gateways feature, which allows you to choose whether individual devices use your VPN connection or your regular local internet connection.

Netgear Nighthawk R7000 VPN Router Setup
Your Netgear Nighthawk R7000 arrives with Sabai OS already installed, so there is no need to flash or install the router firmware yourself. Basic network and VPN setup can be completed through the Sabai OS browser-based interface.
To get started:
- Unplug your modem from power.
- Connect the Netgear Nighthawk R7000 to your modem using an Ethernet cable.
- Connect power to your R7000.
- Restore power to your modem and allow both devices to start.
- Connect your computer or device to the R7000.
- Open a web browser and go to 192.168.199.1.
- Enter the login information provided with your router.
- Follow our Sabai OS VPN Router Setup Guide to complete your router and VPN configuration.
Sabai OS Gateways
Sabai OS Gateways gives you control over which devices on your network use your VPN connection and which use your regular local internet connection.
For example, you can assign a smart TV or streaming device to your VPN while allowing a computer, phone, or game console to continue using your regular internet connection. Device assignments can be managed directly from the Sabai OS dashboard and saved for future use.
The R7000 can also be used with a compatible VPN Accelerator, allowing supported devices to be assigned to the VPN Accelerator through Gateways for dedicated VPN processing and increased VPN speeds compared with processing the VPN connection directly on compatible router hardware.
Whole-Network VPN Connectivity
Configuring a compatible VPN connection at the router level allows devices throughout your network to access the VPN without installing and configuring separate VPN software on every device.
This is particularly useful for devices that may not support traditional VPN applications, including smart TVs, streaming devices, game consoles, and other connected devices.
Instead of managing individual VPN applications across multiple devices, the Netgear Nighthawk R7000 with Sabai OS provides centralized VPN and network management from the router's browser-based dashboard.
AC1900 Wi-Fi & Gigabit Ethernet
The Netgear Nighthawk R7000 provides simultaneous 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz 802.11ac wireless connectivity with combined wireless speeds up to 1900 Mbps. Three external antennas and high-powered Wi-Fi amplifiers help provide strong wireless coverage throughout larger and multi-level homes.
For devices where speed and connection stability are especially important, four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports provide fast wired connectivity for computers, smart TVs, streaming devices, game consoles, network storage, and other Ethernet-enabled devices.
The R7000's 1 GHz dual-core processor and 256 MB of RAM provide the additional processing and network capacity needed for homes with multiple connected devices and more demanding network activity.

Netgear Nighthawk 7000 router
Sabai preconfigured my Nighthawk 7000 router for strong VPN perfectly. I only had to plug it in and it was 100% ready. Seamless process. I will only use Sabai for my routers.

VPN made easy by great technology and professionals
So impressed with the Sabai approach. I engaged before purchase to learn more and their technical professionals (Rhett in my case) answered my questions in plain english and didn't upsell or overpromise. As I purchased, received, installed, and implemented Rhett actually stayed with me and went tested the field of VPN providers to find the one that worked the best for my area and Internet provider. Finding the right (fastest) VPN for my computer took about an hour of trying different providers but Rhett stayed right with me. Impressive! Great Product
Super easy to set up. I went with this model because it intergrates with my IPVanishVPN. The software has gateways which allow you to decide what devices are on VPN and which are not. Great choice if you have a smart TV and can't load VPN software onto your TV directly.

Great product and great support from Ruth
Purchased this router this week and had it shipped to Australia to help setting up media boxes to get UK content. Im not very Tech aware so as expected i had a few issues at set up due to my lack of knowledge ! I contacted Ruth who was patient , happy to help and advise and then to rectify the problems i had caused ! she remote accessed my PC and re sorted everything out . Now its all working as i wanted it to. Very easy to allocate VPN or Local Internet to each device. Happy with my purchase and happy with support from Sabai during set up. Thanks !

Great Product and even better Customer Service
Had this product just for over a week now and I have to say works as advertised the Sabai OS system on it is very easy to manage from novice to advanced skills. Have my VPN running in it continuously with no disconnect issues what so ever. Was my first purchase from Sabai Technology and I have to say thank you for the amazing customer service all the way from ordering to the expedited shipping and to the great Tech Support. Special thanks to Rhett for the help in getting my router out to me at the promised time and for the remote support session to help me figure out ways to speed up my VPN speed from overseas. Works exactly as advertised and worth the money
While I have some basic tech knowledge, I am by no means a networking expert. Having just moved outside of the US, I was interested in getting a quality router that would 1) cover my apartment and take advantage of my home fiber-optic connection; and 2) provide VPN capability so that my devices can stream US content. A colleague told me about his Sabai router so I ordered one myself and have been very satisfied. The router has been blazing fast and after placing it in a central location, covers my rather large 3 bedroom, single-story apartment. The setup was incredibly easy, including integrating my StrongVPN service. The VPN Gateways feature was the biggest selling point for buying the Sabai version of this router with the custom Sabai OS installed. I easily set my media streaming devices up on the VPN while leaving the other general internet browsing devices on the local internet. Switching them back and forth has been very easy, even for my level of networking knowledge. I didn't really need to use the Sabai customer service but it's nice to know it's there. Highly recommend this router if you need a top-notch router with the ability to assign individual devices to a VPN or local internet, as needed.
