The Linksys E2500 is a dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless VPN router powered by Sabai OS. Both wireless bands can be used simultaneously, allowing you to connect multiple devices across your network. With wireless speeds of up to 300 Mbps per band and four Ethernet LAN ports, the E2500 is an affordable VPN router option for apartments, smaller homes, and lighter network use.

The built-in USB port allows you to connect compatible network storage devices or an external hard drive for sharing files and media across your network.

The Linksys E2500 arrives with Sabai OS installed and ready for setup. Our VPN-focused router firmware is designed to make network and VPN management accessible through an easy-to-use browser-based dashboard.

With a compatible VPN configured on the router, devices connected to the E2500 can use the VPN connection without requiring separate VPN software on each device. This is particularly useful for smart TVs, streaming devices, game consoles, and other devices that may not support VPN applications directly.

Sabai OS also includes our Gateways feature, which allows you to choose whether individual devices use your VPN connection or your regular local internet connection.

Linksys E2500 VPN Router Setup

Your Linksys E2500 arrives with Sabai OS already installed, so there is no need to flash or install the router firmware yourself. Basic network and VPN setup can be completed through the Sabai OS browser-based interface.

To get started:

1. Unplug your modem from power.
2. Connect the Linksys E2500 to your modem using an Ethernet cable.
3. Connect power to your Linksys E2500.
4. Restore power to your modem and allow both devices to start.
5. Connect your computer or device to the E2500.
6. Open a web browser and go to 192.168.199.1.
7. Enter the login information provided with your router.

Sabai OS Gateways

Sabai OS Gateways gives you control over which devices on your network use your VPN connection and which use your regular local internet connection.

For example, you can assign a smart TV or streaming device to your VPN while allowing a computer, phone, or game console to continue using your regular internet connection. Device assignments can be managed directly from the Sabai OS dashboard and saved for future use.

Whole-Network VPN Connectivity

Configuring a compatible VPN connection at the router level allows devices throughout your network to access the VPN without installing and configuring separate VPN software on every device.

This is particularly useful for devices that may not support traditional VPN applications, including smart TVs, streaming devices, game consoles, and other connected devices.

Instead of managing individual VPN applications across multiple devices, the Linksys E2500 with Sabai OS provides centralized VPN and network management from the router's browser-based dashboard.

Dual-Band Wi-Fi for Lighter Networks

The Linksys E2500 provides simultaneous 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless connectivity with speeds of up to 300 Mbps per band. Its compact design and internal antennas make it a practical option for apartments, smaller homes, and networks with lighter bandwidth requirements.

Four 10/100 Mbps Ethernet LAN ports provide wired connectivity for computers, smart TVs, streaming devices, game consoles, and other Ethernet-enabled devices.

The Linksys E2500 powered by Sabai OS is an economical VPN router option for customers who want router-level VPN connectivity and flexible device management without the additional capacity of a higher-performance VPN router.

Important VPN Compatibility Information

The Linksys E2500 is legacy hardware and cannot be upgraded to support newer OpenVPN packages or encryption standards. However, it remains compatible with AES-CBC encryption and OpenVPN 2.3-based configurations.

The E2500 is not compatible with AES-GCM. If you are unsure about compatibility, please contact your VPN provider before purchasing to confirm that they support OpenVPN 2.3-based configurations using AES-CBC encryption. VPN provider requirements can change over time, so Sabai Technology cannot maintain a complete list of compatible or incompatible providers.

NordVPN and ExpressVPN are not compatible with this device.

VPN performance can vary based on your internet connection, VPN provider, VPN protocol, selected VPN server, geographic location, network conditions, connected devices, and other factors.

Some streaming services, websites, applications, and other online services attempt to detect and block VPN traffic. If your VPN connects successfully and displays the VPN server's IP address, the VPN connection is functioning correctly. However, compatibility with any specific streaming service, website, application, or online content cannot be guaranteed.
