Sabai Passport: Install Sabai OS on Your Compatible Router

Already own a compatible router? Sabai Passport allows you to install Sabai OS yourself using your existing hardware.

This digital product includes one Sabai OS license, the appropriate Sabai OS firmware for your eligible router, and instructions for flashing the router at home. It is intended for customers who are comfortable performing their own firmware installation and understand the risks associated with flashing third-party router firmware.

Important: Please Read Before Purchasing

  • Sabai Passport is a DIY firmware installation product.
  • Your exact router model and hardware version must be compatible with Sabai OS.
  • Flashing third-party firmware always carries a risk of rendering your router non-functional, commonly referred to as "bricking" the router.
  • Sabai Technology does not provide remote support for the firmware flashing process.
  • Sabai Passport is non-refundable once the software and license have been issued.
  • Your Sabai OS license is permanently associated with the MAC address of the router on which it is activated and cannot be transferred to another router.

By purchasing Sabai Passport, you acknowledge that you have read the compatibility requirements, installation risks, and policies on this page.

Why Sabai OS?

Sabai OS provides a straightforward way to manage supported VPN connections at the router level. Instead of configuring a VPN separately on each compatible device, a Sabai OS router can establish the VPN connection for devices connected through your network.

Sabai OS also provides access to advanced networking features through an easy-to-use web interface, without requiring the command-line configuration commonly associated with many third-party router firmware options.

Router Compatibility

Do not purchase Sabai Passport unless your exact router model and hardware version is listed below.

Sabai Passport is currently available for the following router models:

  • Linksys E2500 (v3 only)
  • Netgear WNR3500L (v2 only)
  • Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 R7000 (not R7000P)
  • Netgear Nighthawk X6 AC3200 R8000 (not X6S and not R8000P)

Model names that appear similar are not necessarily compatible. Please verify both the model number and hardware version of your router before ordering.

Sabai Technology cannot guarantee compatibility with routers purchased from third parties, even when the model number appears to match. Hardware revisions, regional variations, previously installed firmware, and other differences may affect compatibility.

DIY Installation & Flashing Risk

Installing Sabai OS requires replacing your router's existing firmware. Firmware flashing carries an inherent risk, particularly if an incorrect firmware image is used, the installation is interrupted, or the router hardware differs from the supported configuration.

An unsuccessful firmware flash can render the router unusable or "brick" the device.

Sabai Technology does not provide a warranty or guarantee against damage to customer-owned hardware resulting from the firmware flashing process.

If you are not comfortable performing a firmware installation yourself or accepting this risk, we recommend purchasing a router with Sabai OS already installed directly from Sabai Technology.

What's Included?

  • 1x Sabai OS license for one compatible router
  • Sabai OS firmware for your eligible router
  • DIY installation instructions
  • Sabai OS activation for the registered router after successful installation

Digital Delivery

Sabai Passport is a digital product and is not an instant download.

After your order has been reviewed and processed, you will receive the applicable Sabai OS download information and installation instructions by email.

After successfully flashing your router, you must contact Sabai Technology to request your Sabai OS activation token. Activation is not automatic.

Technical Support

Remote technical support is not provided for the actual firmware flashing process. You are responsible for following the supplied instructions and completing the initial Sabai OS installation on your router.

Once Sabai OS has been successfully installed, assistance with eligible router configuration, VPN setup, and other supported issues is available through Sabai Freedom Technical Support.

International Use

Sabai OS is not guaranteed to function in every country or network environment. It is not recommended for use in China and may not activate or function reliably there.

Other countries, networks, or regions may also restrict VPN traffic, access to activation services, VPN protocols, or other functionality required by Sabai OS. Sabai Technology cannot guarantee operation in locations where internet or VPN services are restricted.

VPN Performance & Third-Party Services

Sabai Technology does not guarantee specific internet or VPN speeds. VPN performance can vary based on router hardware, internet connection, VPN provider, VPN protocol, VPN server performance, geographic location, network conditions, and other factors outside of Sabai Technology's control.

Some streaming services, websites, applications, and other online services attempt to detect or block VPN traffic. Compatibility with any specific third-party service or geographically restricted content cannot be guaranteed.

License, Refund & Transfer Policy

Sabai Passport is non-refundable once the software and license have been issued.

Each Sabai Passport purchase provides a Sabai OS license for one compatible router. The license is permanently associated with the MAC address of the router on which Sabai OS is activated.

Sabai OS licenses purchased through Sabai Passport are not transferable between routers. Transfers, exchanges, or refunds cannot be issued if you replace the router, purchase an incompatible router, provide an incorrect model, or are unable to successfully complete the firmware installation.

By purchasing Sabai Passport, you acknowledge the risks associated with installing third-party firmware on customer-owned hardware and accept responsibility for verifying your router's compatibility before beginning the installation.

    Good product but ...

Posted by Chris on Jul 20th 2016

The Sabai OS itself is in some ways superior to the Tomato Shibby firmware I previously used. My VPN is more stable and is a bit faster than before. However you are only limited to one VPN. To change servers, for example, you have to erase the ovpn file you are using and install another. But my biggest problem are the furnished instructions. Of course, they have to be followed exactly to get the Sabai OS to work properly but a few key points are mysteriously omitted from the instructions. My VPN requires a sign in to use. There was no mention of how to do this in the instructions and finding it in the online help documents is difficult. Sabai does provide a simple way to add this information but it was not obvious to me and I contacted support for help, which came quickly. More egregious is the fact that once you install the OS you need a new login name and password, which are not included in the instructions and is very hard to find in their support documents.. Why this crucial fact was omitted is a mystery. Finally, $129 is a bit much to pay for this in my opinion. Of course, if you already have a qualified router it is the cheaper way to go. Overall I am pleased with the product and I might even buy the VPN accelerator, although from what little I can find online, may not be value to me. Maybe Sabai could add more detailed information to their site.

I flashed my own Asus N66U, as I had it before I knew Sabai existed. I was looking for a central VPN solution for my house when I found Sabai. Their support is is top-notched and friendly. The VPN Gateway function is awesome and easy to use. You WILL love this product.

Superb Support, Powerful yet Easy to use Router OS

Posted by Sheldon W on Jan 13th 2016

This is my first experience with Sabai OS after having used DD-WRT and Generic Tomato routers and I couldn't be more pleased with the result. I acquired a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 on my own and bought Sabai Passport to flash the router with Sabai OS (simpler for me to get the router this way as I live in Canada and eliminates Customs, duties etc) I selected this option after researching ways for getting openVPN on routers. I've flashed routers with DDWRT and Tomato in the past but the hassle of identifying the correct versions that go with certain hardware and knowing exactly what functionality was embedded in which OS releases was too frustrating and so unclear after browsing through pages of conflicting details on the various blogs and sites for DDWRT and Tomato. For a router as powerful and expensive as the Netgear Nighthawk R7000 I wanted support for getting clear answers to my questions even if I could perform the flashing tasks myself. Sabai Passport was the perfect fit for my requirements and included remote support if I needed it. The instructions were so clear! I received detailed and prompt responses both before and after purchase that I was able to perform the router flashing + openVPN configuration myself just by going step by step. The other key feature unique to Sabai both in function and ease of set up is the Sabai "Gateway" feature. This allowed me to specify which devices connected to the router would use the VPN connection vs regular local internet connection. This selective VPN capability alone is worth picking Sabai over another router OS as it works reliably and so easy to set up or change. I've convinced other family members to get Sabai Passport and they're fully satisfied with the service and support as well. Those in the US or people who don't want to perform any tasks preparing a router might prefer just getting the preflashed routers directly from Sabai. But for anyone who can follow step by step it really is simple enough to put Sabai OS on a router on your own with Sabai Passport

I am very happy with this purchase. Sabah 24 works where my own wi-fi from Comcast fail me. Their support and care in helping me instal the product and actually set up my Roku 3 was exceptional and very impressive. Highly recommend this company.

It's just Tomato with a fresh GUI Skin

If your web uplink is faster than 120Mbit, you're going to cap out your hardware's ability under this OS. With Gig fiber to the home, my speeds DROPPED by 75% on identical hardware/cabling by simply moving to SabaiOS. Reverted to stock firmware and speed came back to normal. Save your cash.

    Fantastic OS, Great Support

Posted by Ross on Mar 22nd 2015

I work in IT Customer Service, so I have pretty high expectations when it comes to support. Thankfully I found Sabai Technology to have the highest quality of support and delightful staff who are eager to help. This was not the first time I've installed firmware to a router - but I wish my first experience had been this easy. It was very straight forward - they provided the exact files to download so I didn't have to worry about getting that wrong. Then they provided specific step-by-step instruction on the installation which was problem-free and very easy. Post-install I was able to get setup and running quickly - even OpenVPN setup was easier than I've had with DD-WRT before. I ran into trouble - my own fault I should add - when trying to use the 'Gateways' feature. I could get all devices on my VPN, but for some reason couldn't get my PC off of it to use the Local IP. I contacted their support team and they remoted in to take a look. Everything looked good to their tech, so he booked me in for an appointment (free of charge) with a more experienced Tech. The booking system was fantastic given that I'm international and their opening hours were 11pm for me! The appointment itself was very fast and on time. The matter was resolved in <5 minutes and everything is as it should be. I cannot recommend Sabai more highly - I have already sent several friends their way and will continue to buy from them in the future.

    Excellent OS for the RT-N66u

Posted by maestro on Mar 2nd 2015

Love the OS!!! The gateway feature is not only unique but it makes configuring devices for local internet and VPN a breeze. Definitely better than the stock firmware and in my opinion it has a very simple yet feature packed GUI to make configuring the device easy. The OS favors security from the initial setup, too. Wifi was already protected with a key by default. Highly recommended for a secure installation.

    VPN and Local Internet

This product is doing exactly where I was looking for. Using a VPN connection for some devices and local internet at the same time. Setup was very easy and software is running stable.
